Critical Reflection
Module Reflection:
Throughout this module, I made significant progress in developing critical thinking and communication skills. My goals were to build confidence in public speaking and improve critical thinking by organising my thoughts and adopting a structured approach to solving complex issues.
Throughout this module, each student had opportunities to practice public speaking by discussing topics or reading passages, which improved both listening and speaking skills. I was able to train myself to articulate my ideas more effectively, both in written and verbal formats. I was also able to engage in meaningful conversations by actively listening to everyone's perspective. One of my proudest achievements is that I was able to speak with confidence during my oral presentation. Despite being unwell with stomach flu, I was fortunate to have planned my time well and given myself a week to practice for the presentation. While the result was not as I expected, the experience helped me significantly improve my public speaking skills. One aspect I appreciated about this module was the regular requirement to give feedback to classmates after activities. By giving feedback to others, we subconsciously learn to critique our own work in future projects which will help us to critically evaluate situations instead of responding impulsively. These experiences have shaped my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and reinforced the importance of effective communication and critical thinking.
Moving forward, I recognise some areas that I can continue to work on. Firstly, I want to focus on improving my active listening skills. To do this, I need to pay closer attention to the speaker, and ask clarifying questions when required. Secondly, this module also taught me the importance of having constructive feedback from peers and instructors, therefore I plan to actively seek feedback to identify areas for improvement and further refine my skills.
Project Reflection:
This group project significantly contributed to my personal growth, teaching me how to effectively manage multiple projects across different modules. Our group set weekly deadlines that aligned with our schedules, ensuring we stayed on track and had time to refine our work. One key challenge was working with people I didn’t know. Initially, adapting to different working styles and communication preferences was difficult. Over time, we found a shared communication style and began collaborating more efficiently and productively. This experience taught me how to be adaptable and understanding towards people.
A significant lesson I gained from this project was the value of diversity in problem-solving. My team members frequently introduced ideas that enriched our project. This taught me to remain open to contributions and work toward consensus by carefully evaluating which ideas were most useful. All the brainstorming sessions were opportunities for my group to grow together, both academically and personally. In addition to brainstorming, asking for feedback within our group played a crucial role in our growth. Regular feedback sessions helped each of us identify areas to improve and recognize what we were doing well, fostering both personal and academic development.
Moving forward, I recognize areas for growth based on lessons from this project. I plan to apply this group-focused approach to future projects, as it fosters growth for both myself and my teammates while ensuring smoother collaboration during challenges. Secondly, I plan to reflect more deeply on my contributions to group projects. By regularly evaluating my strengths and areas for improvement after each task, I aim to refine my skills and enhance my effectiveness as a team member.
